HI,
I have a Robox that was upgraded to a DM machine, and I wanted to fit the SM head to it. For some odd reason, I thought this would still use a single filament reel, but it appears if you want revert back (temporarily) to a SM head you’d have to use two filament reels, one for the 0.8mm nozzle and one for the 0.3mm nozzle.
Is this correct? or Anybody done this? I tried searching the Support Portal but nothing was found.
Thanks
Mike
June 11, 2017 at 5:17 pm #40153@17bt No, this is not correct. The SM head uses only one filament, the one loaded into the filament port labeled 1. The system will not use the filament loaded into the second filament port while you have a single material print head installed.
What may have confused you is that the same heat sink assembly is used for all print heads, so there are two filament entry ports on the print head. Single material heads have the second port blocked at the heat block.
I operate two Betas and four Production Robox.
I am the US/Canada Technical Support engineer for the Robox.

That’s brilliant Ben, that did confuse me, and I’ll be giving the old head a trial run to see if it makes much difference to the build times for these parts I have to run. I don’t think Automaker has facility to swap heads in software mode, unless you change the “hardware” in the machine preferences.
Thanks
Mike

June 13, 2017 at 12:22 am #40175@n6mon That picture shows both filaments loaded or the Detect Loaded Filament flag is deactivated. Either way, the single material print head will only use one extruder and one filament. The other may jam in the head if it gets too hot.
